Manu Samoa Collectors Series: 1947
Aigaletaule’ale’ā F. Tauafiafi
Samoa’s 1947 team played just the one test and won. The match against Tonga which took place at Apia Park on 9 August we won 5-3.
Fourteen players earned their first and only cap this year donning the famous blue jersey once. This is not surprising as the next test match for Samoa took place eight years later in 1955.
The Tongan team according to the history books would have been an experienced group as not one was making an international debut. This makes the 1947 Manu Samoa victory a meritorious achievement.

Samoa stay 10th in rankings despite shock win
Samoa may be celebrating an historic first ever victory over Australia, but their loss to Tonga in the IRB Pacific Nations Cup earlier in the week means they remain 10th in the latest IRB World Rankings, albeit a little closer to Scotland above them.
